In recent months the Apache project's CouchDB has become the buzz of the Free Software community. CouchDB offers lightweight, multi-language and familiar standards based interfaces, and boot-shaking replication awesomeness. With it, it provides potential for KDE and GNOME for a common data store integrated with technologies such as Evolution Data Server, Akonadi, and Firefox, opportunitie for replication across computers and devices, and online/offline syncing. This presentation provides a whistle-stop tour of CouchDB, what it means for the KDE and GNOME desktops and mobile devices, and also includes a demo showing both Akonadi (KDE) and Evolution (GNOME) accessing the same set of address book contacts using CouchDB.
